HISTORY OF THE BREED

It is not known for certain about the origin of the Mekong bobtails, moreover, until 2004 they were called Thai bobtails. They came to our country together with their masters who worked abroad in the countries of the eastern region, and Thailand is considered their homeland. Although they were brought from China, Cambodia, Burma, Laos, that is, those countries in which the Mekong flows. In these countries, the Mekong live in the homes of the local elite, and are a national treasure.

Cats outwardly resembled Siamese, they had broken tails, dark muzzles and paws. The whole history of breeding the breed is connected with the breeding of Thai and Siamese cats. The ancestors of all these three breeds first appeared in Europe in 1884, brought the first such cats from the City of Angels (Krung Thepa), the capital of the former Siam, later called Bankog, Suen Gud - a British official of the imperial embassy in Bangkok. A pair of cats was given to him by the King of Siam.

At that time, it was the highest award and a sign of high respect and special location. The fact is that the export of such cats from the country was prohibited. From Britain, these cats, mistakenly called Siamese, came to the USA. It is quite possible that they came to America and directly from Siam. In any case, in the USA, President R. B. Hayes and his wife Lucy Webb were the owners of a Siamese cat. And in the Russian Empire, the owners of the first Siams at the beginning of the XVIII century, it turns out, was the royal family.

The ancestors of the Mekong bobtails, now living in our country, came to us not only from the countries of the Middle East, but also from Asian countries. Iraq is the birthplace of Al-Shah, China is Conchita, Laos is even named after its country Laos. Rama came to us from Burma, Nyan came from Vietnam, the geography of the countries is diverse, the homeland of Alsun is Mongolia, Zbishek and Olesya are Iran.

It was these handsome men and their offspring who had the honor to become the ancestors of the breed called Thai bobtails, and later, Mekong bobtails. The opinions of feline experts regarding Thais differed, some of them believed that Thai bobtails are direct descendants of Thai cats, with inaccuracies in the tails that occurred from crossing within the breed.
